NIP Participation at the International Conference on Breaking Barriers through Diversity and Inclusivity
26th-29th February 2024, Islamabad

Prof. Dr Rubina Hanif Director National Institute of Psychology (NIP) participated as panelist in International Conference on Breaking Barriers through Diversity and Inclusivity on 27th February 2024. USAID, in collaboration with National Rural Support Programme (NRSP) and the All Pakistan Women Universities Consortium (APWUC), jointly organized this conference. The mandate of the conference was to enhance collaboration between U.S. Minority Serving Institutions and Women Universities of Pakistan. Panelists discussed and emphasized the need of eradicating gender biases and gender discrimination. Dr. Hanif shared that NIP proudly takes honor in overcoming gender stigmatization among students and staff to a greater extent attributing to the untiring visionary initiatives in teaching and other academic activities such as seminars and workshops. To enhance inclusivity, she suggested that policy makers should take on board both gender with equal representation. They should be provided with equal opportunities to avail resources. According to her, an empowered woman is who is aware of her self-worth, have equal opportunities to work, and have control on decision making about her life.

one-day training workshop of producers on National Narrative and Counter-Narratives for Media Persons at Pakistan Television

Prof. Dr. Rubina Hanif, Director, National Institute of Psychology, Quaid-i-Azam University, was invited as a guest speaker in one-day training workshop of producers on national narrative and counter-narratives for media persons at Pakistan Television. The workshop was jointly organized by Pakistan Television, Film and Drama Academy and Paigham-e-Pakistan Centre for Peace, Reconciliation and Reconstruction Studies, International Islamic University.
Senior academicians and experts expressed their views on the role of media in building a national narrative of the country. Addressing to the ceremony, Prof. Dr. Rubina Hanif, Director, National Institute of Psychology, Quaid-i-Azam University, said, it is the collective responsibility of everyone to promote the national narrative of the country, which reflects all cultures. In the realm of broadcasting, we hold a profound responsibility to shape narratives that not only informs but also fosters understanding and unity.
In today’s digital era, our society is dissent and polarized. For a floundering society, we need to show harmony to counter-terrorism narrative. The national narrative, that has been established in form of Paigham-e-Pakistan is the only narrative that should be followed in all realms of life.
Media plays a key role in this age in building and promoting the national narrative of the country. All type of constructive and destructive narratives are production of the media. At present, several means of media are available, print media, electronic media, traditional media, and social media. Social media is particularly very important. Through constructive use of social media, we can contribute in the reconstruction of our society.

NIP Participation at the Conference of Asian Council of Science Editors, 2024
16 - 17 February 2024, Faisalabad

The NIP team headed by Prof. Dr. Rubina Hanif Director NIP along with Dr. Aisha Zubair faculty member and a group of students participated in the conference. Emerging Scientist is a vibrant hub where researchers, scholars, and innovators unite to showcase pioneering discoveries and encourage impactful collaborations. It’s a prime avenue for expanding professional networks, fostering meaningful connections, and uncovering opportunities for future partnerships. Its 3rd Session, the Asian Council of Science Editors is held on 16 – 17 February 2024, Faisalabad and main theme of the conference is Emerging Scientist: Empowering Early Career Researchers.
Prof. Dr. Rubina Hanif delivered a keynote lecture in an inauguration session titled Balancing Acts: The Dual Impact of The Digital Era on Early Career Researchers and Strategies for Success which was well appreciated by the audience and the interactive session of question and answers was also held. Prof. Dr. Rubina Hanif is also a member of the regional advisory board member in this conference. Afterward, the scientific session on Social Sciences proceeded, which was chaired by Prof. Dr. Rubina Hanif. Furthermore, Dr. Aisha Zubair Assistant Professor at NIP presented her paper titled Psychosocial Determinants of Emotional and Behavioral Problems of Adolescents in Boarding Schools. Later poster competition was held in which posters from social sciences, natural and pure sciences, and mathematics were presented. Ms. Arooj Rasheed, M.Phil. 4th evening program at NIP has won first prize in the poster competition. Likewise, posters presented by Mamoona Zahra, Memoona Naz, Iqra Baig, and Benish Usman were also appreciated.

One day workshop in Karnal Sher Khan Cadet College, Swabi

A one workshop on “Boarding risks and remedies” was held on Wednesday, 18th October 2023 by Karnal Sher Khan Cadet College , Swabi (KSKCCS). Prof. Dr Rubina Hanif and Dr. Nelofar Rauf was invited as guest speaker. Student representatives, teachers and administration staff of seven different cadet colleges across Pakistan participated in this one day workshop. The speakers discussed dynamics of dormitory living to strategies for fostering a supportive community within the boarding environment. The workshop provided valuable insights into addressing the emotional well-being of boarders, emphasizing the importance of creating a home away from home. Cadets explored effective communication strategies, peer support systems, and holistic approaches to student development, envisioning a boarding life that not only thrives academically but also nurtures personal growth and lasting connections. The workshop served as a collaborative space, where experiences were shared, and innovative solutions were cultivated to enhance the overall boarding experience.

One-Day Workshop by Prof. Dr. Rubina Hanif at the University of Gujrat

Director, NIP, Prof. Dr. Rubina Hanif conducted a one day workshop titled Dynamics of Intolerant and Violent Behaviors: Enhancing Skills of Control and Management Among Youth on 1st Feb. 2023 at the University of Gujrat, Gujrat. The workshop had been organized by the Psychology Department of the university and as attended by a large gathering of PhD, MPhil and ADCP students along with the faculty. Based upon her knowledge and indigenous research conducted on the topic, Dr. Hanif shared the causes and consequences of intolerant and violent behaviors among youth with the audience and offered practical suggestions to minimize them in the familial, educational and social context.

MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING BETWEEN NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF PSYCHOLOGY AND BeMe, EQUILIBRIUM TECHNOLOGIES (PVT) LTD

NIP signed an MOU with BeMe, Equilibrium Technologies (Pvt) Ltd. on 30th Jan. 2023. The Karachi based organization is providing innovative, scalable technological solutions for healthcare in Pakistan and globally and is a one stop online mental health platform which matches clients to mental health providers, based on clinical needs and affordability. According to the MOU, both organizations have agreed to collaborate for the promotion of mental health service, research, and capacity building in Pakistan and will be working together for the development of workshops/ certificate courses in the areas of (but not limited to) virtual therapy, disaster response and mental health gap training for primary care physicians. Promotion of collaborative research and grant application to improve clinical outcomes is also a part of the MOU.

Dr. Imran Bukhari, Assistant Professor at National Institute of Psychology, Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad, delivered a seminar on the Role of Emotional Intelligence in dealing with Adolescent Issues at National University of Medical Sciences (NUMS) on 28th of December, 2022. Participants of the seminar included faculty members and the students of NUMS. Dr. Imran highlighted the issues and challenges of adolescents and also highlighted the role of parents, teachers and peers in influencing (positively or negatively) adolescents. He emphasized that teachers and parents must adopt the role of facilitators, to help adolescents deal with their developmental challenges and milestones. He also emphasized that adolescents should also search for some positive meanings in all their developmental challenges. He also explained emotional intelligence and its role in life success. He emphasized that adolescents should proactively learn to control and regulate their emotional challenges intelligently.

Prof. Dr. Rubina Hanif, Director, National Institute of Psychology Quaid-e-Azam University, Islamabad graced the occasion as keynote speaker on the Opening Ceremony of 2nd International Conference on “Collaborative Partnerships in Strengthening Social Sciences: Addressing Indigenous and Global Challenges”. The conference was organized by Fatima Jinnah women university, Rawalpindi in collaboration with USEFP. The title of her keynote lecture was “Reconceptualization of Curriculum for a Digital Future: Indigenous Challenges and Opportunities”. She highlighted the need for advanced technologies in the present era in higher education institutions. The need and application of an indigenous model to facilitate the learning process in students was identified.

A symposium was presented by faculty and students of National Institute of Psychology Quaid-e-Azam University, Islamabad on the first day of 2nd International Conference on “Collaborative Partnerships in Strengthening Social Sciences: Addressing Indigenous and Global Challenges”. The conference was organized by Fatima Jinnah women university, Rawalpindi in collaboration with USEFP. The theme of the symposium was “Implications of Educational Psychology in Higher Education: Opportunities and Challenges” chaired by Prof. Dr. Rubina Hanif, Director NIP and Brig. Dr. Shoaib Kiyani , Chief Psychologist at Director Personnel Administration, GHQ, Rawalpindi. The symposium was started with a keynote lecture by Dr Nelofar Rauf followed by eight presentations highlighting the need for educational psychology reforms at micro and macro level in higher education institutions.

Dr. Imran Bukhari, Assistant Professor (National Institute of Psychology), participated in a seminar about transgender issues and their solutions organized by Jamat-e-Islami on 22nd of October, 2022. This seminar included participants from different religious and academic institutions. Dr. Imran Bukhai highlighted the history of transgender community and elaborated the reasons for the exclusion of transgenders from the mainstream. He emphasized that society must accept its collective sin to exclude intersex from the mainstream that culminated, over a period of centuries, into the emergence of new classification system, based on gender. He opposed the classification system based on gender and emphasized that natural system of classification is based on sex. He provided the forum with research evidences in support of his argument. He emphasized that societies should correct their original sin of excluding intersex from the mainstream. He also talked about the weakness of arguments in support of classification, based on gender. He reasoned that exclusion of any group from the mainstream imparts certain psychological implications on the people of that minority group that results into the development of a social norm and a value structure, that is different from the mainstream. He emphasized the mainstream to correct its original sin and include the intersex into the mainstream, either male or female, on the basis of other sex related attributes.

Cyber Wales International Webinar

Professor Dr. Rubina Hanif (Director NIP) believes that establishing safe and dependable cyber spaces are necessary for masking globalization as a true reality. She said this while delivering a talk on factors that affect the way cyber behaviors are perceived, initiated and maintained. The talk was centered on understanding the psychological factors that need to be highlighted to make cyber spaces safe and conducive for common people, and highlight the ways that cyber spaces can be made safer and more accessible to each and every sector. The director also highlighted the work that is being done on various aspects of cyber communities at National Institute of Psychology, Pakistan. The talk also highlighted the need for safer ways to globalization of services, policies, and communication.

The International webinar was arranged by Cyber Wales on the 4th of September 2022. Cyber Wales is a representative body with the aim of being the heart and the voice of the cyber communities in Wales and elsewhere in the world. They deal with pertinent topics like women in the cyber industry, data privacy, and education and training. The webinar was organized to celebrate a linkage between Cyber Wales and the Alaa Too University of Kyrgyzstan. During the webinar, various aspects of cyber security and trends for the future were also discussed. The discussions were fruitful for a future of globalization through a safe and secure mode of interaction.

Workshop on Emotional and Social Quotient for Effective Pedagogical Skills

Prof. Dr. Rubina Hanif, Director of the National Institute of Psychology (NIP) from Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad presented a workshop on “Emotional and Social Quotient for Effective Pedagogical Skills” at of FAST-National University of Computer and Emerging Sciences, CFD campus on 11th of May 2022. The workshop was conducted under the banner of Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC), HEC and HR department of FAST-National University of Computer and Emerging Sciences, CFD campus. The workshop included newly inducted teachers and existing faculty members of various departments. The workshop focused on the various factors that affect teaching in the classroom and highlighted strategies that can be used by teachers to regulate their behaviors and the behaviors of students. These strategies were aimed at improving teacher productivity and enhanced wellbeing in the classroom.

Lastly, Prof. Dr. Shahzad Sarfraz, Director, FAST-National University of Computer and Emerging Sciences, CFD campus distributed shields to the resource person and participating faculty members.

Malik from the NIP Faculty delivered a keynote address titled Behaviour Change: The Human Side of Technology at the 2nd International Innovation Summit for Microelectronics & AI at Quaid-i-Azam University Islamabad held on 29th-30th June, 2022. The summit had been held to connect all stakeholders, filter technologies, publish advanced concepts, and facilitate commercialization and adoption of technologies around microelectronics and AI.

Seminar on Emotional Intelligence for Success at Work and Beyond at Ali Trust College, Khanna, Islamabad

NIP faculty Dr. Sobia Masood, delivered a seminar on “Emotional Intelligence for Success at Work and Beyond” on June 28th, 2022 for teaching faculty and leadership of the Ali Trust College, Khanna, Islamabad, a residential educational institution for students from marginalized segment of society comprising rural belt of all provinces and regions of the country. Dr. Masood talked about various competencies of emotional intelligence with a focus on strategies to develop such skills for being better able to deal with students, colleagues and in other relationships.

District Women Workers‟ Convention organized by Sustainable Social Development Organization (SSDO), Islamabad

Ms. Arooj Mujeeb participated in the District Women Workers‟ Convention organized by Sustainable Social Development Organization (SSDO) held at Islamabad Hotel, Islamabad on June 27, 2022. The organization is working on gender equality and empowering women and girls rights. The convention was specifically arranged to highlight the demand for labor rights of working women. The session was chaired by Federal Minister of Board of Investment Chaudhry Salik Hussain, Senator Farhat Ullah Babar, Senator Seemi Ezdi, and Senator Fawzia Arshad.

Career Counseling Training Workshop by EduVision Pakistan

Ms. Raiha Aftab from the NIP faculty attended a one-day career counseling training workshop organized by EduVision Pakistan on 25th June, 2022. The workshop was a blend of theoretical concepts and practical applications of career counseling techniques in order to develop career counseling skills.

Training Course on School-based Prevention Interventions at the Anti-Narcotics Force Academy, Islamabad

Dr. Naeem Aslam from NIP faculty attended a training course titled School-based Prevention Interventions organized by United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime for Prevention Specialists (UNODC) in Pakistan in coordination with Ministry of Narcotics Control and Ministry of National Health Services Regulations and Coordination at the Anti-Narcotics Force Academy, Islamabad from 6th June, 2022-10th June, 2022. The course presented an overview of the school in society, the science behind school-based prevention interventions, and the application of such evidence-based approaches in school settings around the world.

7-Day Residential Training Workshop by Shaoor Foundation for Education and Awareness

Ms. Arooj Mujeeb from NIP faculty participated in a 7-day residential training workshop titled “Amn-e-Qalaab (Cohort-VII)” organized by Shaoor Foundation for Education and Awareness from 4th June, 2022 to 10th June, 2022. The foundation selects 30 participants for every cohort from different districts of Pakistan on basis of their social work activities. Cohort VII included males, females, and transgenders from 28 districts who were trained for inclusion, peace, and positive impact on society. Resource persons included politicians, parliamentarians, social workers, researchers, journalists, and vice chancellors of different universities of Pakistan.
